Message from the Ambassador
Welcome to the “virtual” U.S. Embassy Tonga website. This is a new channel of communication that we hope will be useful for you.
The United States and the Kingdom of Tonga are long-time friends. American missionaries and traders began visiting Tonga two centuries ago. We fought together in World War II. Most recently our soldiers have stood together in the Coalition of the Willing in Iraq. Tonga and the United States have repeatedly supported common interests in the United Nations and other international institutions. Today, many Tongans live in the United States and continue to assist their families back home via remittances. U.S. Peace Corps Volunteers have built lasting bridges between our two cultures.
The U.S. Embassy accredited to Tonga is in Suva, Fiji, where I am Ambassador. I presented my credentials to King Taufa’ahua Tupou IV in September 2005. Embassy officials travel as frequently as possible to Tonga to make contacts, conduct business, and assist the American community. This “virtual” Embassy website is intended to supplement such efforts to stay in close touch. We hope this mechanism will increase our exchanges in all respects. We intend to update the site often with news, notices of coming events including visits by Embassy officials, consular information, and whatever else appears useful.
We at Embassy Suva want to be responsive. Your feedback can help make this forum meet your needs. Please feel free to let us know how we can improve our service.
Best wishes,
Larry M. Dinger
Ambassador
