Hubert H. Humphrey Fellowship Announcement (NEW)
The United States Embassy in Suva is pleased to announce the annual competition for the Hubert H. Humphrey Fellowship Program for 2010-2011. Applications are welcome from citizens of Fiji, Kiribati, Nauru, Tonga and Tuvalu. Successful candidates receive a year of graduate-level non-degree academic coursework and practical professional development activities.
The Fellowship is offered to mid-career professionals who have a proven track record of leadership, a public service commitment, and the capacity to take full advantage of a self-defined program of independent study at a leading U.S. university. By providing future leaders and policy makers with experience in U.S. society, culture, and professional fields, the program provides a basis for lasting, productive ties between Americans and their professional counterparts overseas.
The Humphrey Program does not lead to an academic degree. Rather, Humphrey Fellows undertake a one-year program of graduate-level academic study and professional development activities directly related to their professional needs and fields of interest. Humphrey Fellows are placed in theme-based clusters of approximately ten persons at leading U.S. universities. Following their academic study program, Humphrey Fellows also participate in a professional development internship for at least six weeks with local, state, national or international organizations located in the United States. The Fellowship Program begins with an intensive orientation in Washington, D.C.
Humphrey Fellowships provide for international travel and travel within the U.S. as required, tuition and fees, books, a monthly maintenance stipend, and limited funds for professional development activities such as attendance at conferences, field trips and professional affiliations.

• Communications/Journalism
• Economic Development/Finance and Banking
• Educational Administration, Planning and Policy
• HIV/AIDS Policy and Prevention
• Human Rights
• Natural Resources/Environmental Policy/Climate Change
• Public Health Policy and Management
• Public Policy Analysis and Public Administration
• Trafficking in Persons, Policy and Prevention
Basic Eligibility Criteria:
an undergraduate (first university) degree;
a minimum of six years of substantial professional experience;
limited or no prior experience in the United States;
demonstrated leadership qualities;
a record of public service in the community; and
strong written and spoken English skills.
